A teaser for a film that doesn’t exist yet has one job, which is to make someone with money ask what happens next. Teun wanted to do it without a line of dialogue.
One lamp, one wall
Everything in the room points at the wall, so I lit only the wall. The man stays mostly in silhouette, which keeps him guilty and innocent at once.
Two rules for the string
Keep it sharp
Red thread goes soft and pink if you overexpose it. We held the whole frame a stop under and lifted his face later.
Keep it moving
A small fan just out of shot makes the strings tremble. You won’t notice it, but the wall feels alive.
A word of warning
Pins work loose from plaster after an hour of fan. Bring spares.
