Three rounded ferry windows framing a hazy city skyline at sunset

Salen Marea

The evening crossing, from the cabin windows to the wake.

A film for the harbour ferry's hundredth year. No voiceover, only the crossing as the regulars know it: the cabin hum, the wind on deck and the city getting closer.

The ferry turned a hundred, and Harbour Line wanted a film its regulars would recognise without being told what they were looking at.

The crossing, as we shot it

We rode the evening run every day for a week and filmed one stretch of it each time.

No voiceover

Every draft with a narrator sounded like an advert. Without one, the engine and the wind tell you how long you’ve been on board, and that’s the feeling the regulars talk about.
