A night building, twelve windows, the lights going out room by room.
A campaign film for a city power company asking a whole street to switch off for one hour. Shot from the pavement in one night: twelve rooms of one apartment block, each window lit white or red, going dark in turn until one room is left.
Halde Energy asked a whole street to switch off for an hour on a Sunday evening, and they wanted the film to look like that street rather than like an energy company.
Twelve rooms, lit from inside
The block on the corner had twelve windows facing the road. Every flat said yes, so each room got one panel behind its curtain and a runner on the stairs with a radio.
Eight rooms in white, dimmed to a quarter.
Four rooms behind a deeper red gel.
Two cameras, one across the road and one on the stairs.
The take we kept
Flat nine switched off a second early on the last pass and the whole pavement gasped; we kept that take, gasp included. The full night is in the journal: Twelve windows in one night.
